Joining the SCBWI Summer Spectacular!

SCWI.jpg

This is the year to try new things, and this is one we have wanted to do for a long time! We finally joined the SCBWI! Much of our inspiration comes from our love of books, so it just makes sense that we would join this amazing community of fellow children’s books’ authors and artists! A great way to get our feet wet was to join their Online Event: the Summer Spectacular! And it was super fun! Among many Zoom meetings, we joined very interesting conversations with Spanish authors, along with informative panels. We think joining this community is going to help us expand our storytelling! It was also fun to meet with many artists and writers online from around the world!

Can’t wait for the next event!

SPP Online!!!

SPP.jpg

Well… This year has been eccentric so far! With the pandemic still going and every beloved convention canceled, it’s been a breath of fresh air to be able to attend one of our favorite ones online!!! Once more, SPP has left a mark on us! We love this convention! It’s been super well organized, the staff has been super kind and receptive (it’s awesome that they have translators), and we have been amazed to meet all these companies from Asia!!! Attending SPP allowed us to introduce ourselves to new companies and to learn about them so hopefully we can work together in the future!

The convention highlight for us has been the Biz-Matching program. It was very easy to enroll and use, and once we filled out our information, it was extremely useful to track the companies we might be interested in - and for them to track us! This shared information through SPP made for great conversation starters and facilitated a lot of our company research, as it’s sometimes hard to find the right websites due to the language barrier. Thankfully, SPP had it all organized and in English for us! Also, they adjusted the duration for a longer convention time, so it’s easier to schedule those meetings from overseas!

We’re looking forward to it again next year, hopefully in-person!

Thanks SPP!

CTNx-2019!!

Yess one more year at CTNx! And this year we came full of new things and excitement!!! To start, it’s the very first year we have done an Online Raffle through our Instagram!!! We wanted to celebrate on a special way our 3 years attending to CTN as a studio!! And what better way than to give a ticket to one of our followers that really wants to go there, so they can benefit from the convention as much as we always do!

It was hard to choose among all the submissions, but all worth it! We got to meet Eugene Paek , the lucky background designer that got to get not only our free ticket, but a studio visit and a private portfolio review! You go Eugene!!

But that was not it!!! We also got very lucky to be once more giging a hand at Raising the Bar, meeting all this incredible talent that we hope we can work with in the future!

And more!!! We got Super happy and excited to be able to give a Panel about “ Finding your audience by Tailoring your content”. We were super happy to see everybody engaged on the panel and to be able to answer all this questions!

The only thing we regret.. like always..is not having better pictures!! But oh well! It will always be… NEXT YEAR!!!!

Thanks CTNX.png

Thanks Project Anime LA 2019!!!

It’s time to look back on one of the exciting new conferences we attended this year: Project Anime: Los Angeles!! A biannual conference between Tokyo and Los Angeles, this was the first year that Project Anime provided two different tracks: one for conventions, and one for the anime industry!!!

With speakers from all parts of the industry - producers, directors, toy designers, etc. - we learned a lot about the differences in animation development and production in Japan, the challenges of adapting Japanese properties for global audiences, the power of merchandise, and more! What was really special was how easy it was to talk with everyone, even before the networking reception. Between the many inspirational panels, we made new connections, new friends, and even snagged some sweet Yokai merch for our shrine!!

Here’s hoping to see you next year Project Anime!!!

Comic Barcelona!

So excited about this 37 Comic Barcelona Festival! Not only because I love comics and it happens in my home city, but also because for the very first time ever I will be part of it! Super thrilled to be sharing some comic knowledge with the little ones at the Comic Kids section, but also to be part of the educational program with the “not so little anymore” future pool of artists! Here at Glow in the Dark, we are all about of giving back to the community, and what a better way for me than sharing some knowledge and tips in Barcelona!

Stay tuned for more news!

Diferente!

Here Linkedin Article.

Here Linkedin Article.

Really excited to share the news that Katia Grifols (our mastermind at the studio) is part of this amazing rooster of Spanish Artists united for a wonderful cause: the creation of  Diferente, a co-illustrated comic written by ILEsucero and sponsored by Dibujos Por Sonrisas.  The project it’s been crafted in a disinterested way, since the benefits of this comic will be used in the campaigns that the organization Dibujos Por Sonrisas carries out to dignify the lives of refugees.

Diferente will be presented during the next Comic Barcelona 2019, and besides acquiring it right there, you will soon have it in all the bookstores.

Diferente tells the story of Jana, a young woman whom one day discovers that the world around her changes in appearance at every moment. To visualize these changes in the reality of Jana, each page of  Diferente  - sometimes even each vignette - is drawn by a different artist. A   narrative tour de force that moves between fantasy and thriller showcasing the journey of self-discovery and self-improvement.

We really hope the best for such a wonderful project!!!

TAC and OTTAWA International Animation Film Festival! 2018

After a crazy inspiring week we can say we are back in Burbank with a LOT of awesome stories to tell from the OIAF !!! The convention was a success for us!! Not only we had a chance to represent Pirateers! It the TAC semifinals (that was an awesome experience already!), but we also took full advantage of all the incredible inspiring and informational lectures, events and a very well organized Business Fast Track. We saw a lot of international movies, made tones of talented friends and discover the heart of a very lively city that lives up to their high Canadien friendly standards.

The event had a lot of very fun and successful networking events like the Toon Boom sponsored Boat Cruise, or the BBQ-Pumpkin-Carving event in the beautiful park sponsored by Cartoon Network. Not to forget the great Nickelodeon Breakfast and the lunch and parties networking events. We really look forward to come back next year and see all the new friends we meet! Also stay tuned for mischievous outcomes from this event!

And what kind of Creative Studio we would be if we didn’t took the chance to explore and get inspired by this beautiful city?? So we did!!! And we discover tones of wonderful bookstores, secret coffees, amazing beautiful fall colors and very impressive Modern-gothic Architecture!

Ottawa is a Must See City!!

Thanks to everybody that came to our "From idea to Pitch" panel !!! Was very incredible to see how many of you are interested in pitching and developing original content. The panel was nervewracking for us (The good kind of nervewracking tho!) since it was a full house audience and a great turnout! We definitely had a lot of fun and we hope you all enjoyed as we did!
